The investment: No sharpening equipment to buy
Buying a traditional hand plane is just the beginning: you also need sharpening equipment, consumables and eventually replacement plane irons as repeated sharpening wears them down.
For professionals, a sharpening system such as Tormek and its consumables costs around €600. Having your plane irons professionally sharpened costs €10 to €15 excluding VAT each time.
Or sharpening service: €10 to €15 excl. VAT per plane iron
Blades for less than €3 excl. VAT

No more work interruptions
Sharpening a plane iron, reinstalling it and aligning it parallel to the sole takes around 15 minutes. With RALI, simply reverse the blade in 10 seconds, with no readjustment needed.
Tool maintenance: Long-lasting tools and consumables

Frequently asked questions from our customers
Why do professional woodworkers choose RALI tools?
For 40 years, we have supplied woodworking professionals around the world. They need high-quality, easy-to-adjust, low-maintenance and durable tools. Time lost on job sites due to planing problems, along with time spent on maintenance, are decisive factors for them.
Why is the RALI system more economical in the long run?
With our interchangeable blades, sharpening is no longer necessary. Our tools stay sharp and ready to use. No more work interruptions or lengthy sharpening sessions, resulting in substantial savings.
Does buying replacement blades really save money?
Yes, because our blades have an exceptionally long service life. A blade costs less than €3 excluding VAT for 1,600 m of wood shavings (factory test on spruce). Our professional Evolution N hand planes come with 4 blades, enough for 6,400 m of wood shavings. By comparison, investing in a sharpening system such as Tormek and its consumables is significantly more expensive, while a professional sharpening service charges €10 to €15 excluding VAT per plane iron.
Where do the biggest savings come from?
Mainly from time saved: no repeated adjustments, no sharpening and, above all, no lengthy interruptions when something goes wrong during planing (hidden nails, dropping the plane, etc.). Our hand planes are always ready to use: changing a blade takes less than 10 seconds.
Can RALI smoothing plane blades be reused?
Yes. You can give them a second life with our hand scraper (€10 excluding VAT), which is fully compatible with these blades. Once a blade is worn, simply resharpen it using a sharpening stone: the cutting angle matters less when scraping off glue, paint or varnish.
